The Association Between Periodontitis, Gingivitis, Tooth Loss and Stroke: An Umbrella Study with Meta-Analysis.

Background: Cerebrovascular diseases (CVAs) have several risk factors that are categorized as modifiable and nonmodifiable. Periodontal diseases (PD) have a modifiable role in causing CVA, where several studies suggested direct or indirect correlations with systemic diseases. This study aims to summarize, evaluate and analyze all the evidence available in literature, to reach a better understanding of the relation between periodontitis, gingivitis, tooth loss and CVA.

Treatment of vision-threatening branch retinal artery occlusion following coronary angioplasty with surgical displacement of embolus.

Purpose: To report a successful case of vision restoration and macular reperfusion following branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) using pars plana vitrectomy with undermining the artery off the retinal bed.

Methods: This case report involves a 75-year-old patient who was diagnosed immediately with BRAO following cardiac catheterization procedure. An embolus at the superior retinal artery bifurcation was noted.

Pediatric Interventions in a Sanfilippo Syndrome Patient Under General Anesthesia: A Case Report.

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) Type III (MPS III) or Sanfilippo syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive inherited metabolic disorder. This disorder is responsible for lysosomal storage disorder at the cellular aspect. Due to lysosomal enzyme perturbance leading to the alteration of macromolecule metabolisms, this cellular perturbance causes multiple severe systemic and mental outcomes.

12-month outcomes of ziv-aflibercept for neovascular age-related macular degeneration in eyes previously treated with aflibercept.

Purpose: To investigate the 12-month outcomes of ziv-aflibercept for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in eyes previously treated with aflibercept.

Methods: Retrospective chart review of patients with nAMD previously treated with aflibercept for at least 12 months and subsequently transitioned to ziv-aflibercept between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2022, for a period of at least 12 months. Participants were identified, and their clinical and imaging information was extracted from our electronic health records system.

The Hydrochidae (Coleoptera) of Morocco with a redescription of Hydrochus cf. obtusicollis Fairmaire, 1877.

A checklist of water beetles of the family Hydrochidae from Morocco is presented. The study compiles data gathered from a deep literature review and field surveys at 397 freshwater localities between 1985 and 2023. The checklist also contains information concerning type localities and detailed distributions for the eight species found.
