The epithelial Na+ channel (ENaC) emerged early in vertebrates and has played a role in Na+ and fluid homeostasis throughout vertebrate evolution. We previously showed that proteolytic activation of the channel evolved at the water-to-land transition of vertebrates. Sensitivity to extracellular Na+, known as Na+ self-inhibition, reduces ENaC function when Na+ concentrations are high and is a distinctive feature of the channel.

Both conditions induce connective tissue remodeling at the optic nerve head (ONH), including the peripapillary tissues. The purpose of this study was to investigate the thickness changes of the peripapillary tissues during experimental high myopia development in juvenile tree shrews.

Methods: Juvenile tree shrews were assigned randomly to two groups: binocular normal vision (n = 9) and monocular -10 D lens treatment starting at 24 days of visual experience to induce high myopia in one eye while the other eye served as control (n = 12). Refractive and biometric measurements were obtained daily, and 48 radial optical coherence tomography B-scans through the center of the optic nerve head were obtained weekly for 6 weeks.
Background: Viral and bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are public health concerns worldwide, but surveillance systems are not comprehensive enough to design and monitor accurately STI control strategies in most countries. In 2016, 320 STI clinics (CeGIDDs in French) were implemented in France, primarily targeting most exposed populations, although access is free of charge for anybody.
Objective: This article describes the mandatory surveillance system (SurCeGIDD) based on CeGIDD's individual data aiming to better guide STI prevention.
Exploration of new organometallic systems based on polyhedral boron clusters has the potential to solve challenging chemical problems such as the stabilization of reactive intermediates and transition-state-like species postulated for E-H (E = H, B, C, Si) bond activation reactions. We report on facile and clean B-H activation of a hydroborane by a new iridium boron cluster complex. The product of this reaction is an unprecedented and fully characterized transition metal-stabilized boron cation or borenium.
