Corneal Haze Secondary to Corneal Collagen Cross-linking in Keratoconus Patients: Treatment and Outcomes.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcome of patients presenting with mild-to-moderate corneal haze after undergoing corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) for keratoconus (KCN) and their response to a proposed standardized topical steroid-based treatment.

Methods: This study included 19 eyes of 14 patients presenting with corneal haze after undergoing CXL for KCN. Corrected distance visual acuity, corneal thickness and Kmax values by Pentacam Scheimpflug tomography, as well as subjective corneal haze changes were evaluated before and after a topical steroid- and cyclosporine-based treatment.

Antibacterial effect of a diet pill supplement on the human intestinal bacteria.

Introduction: Many people worldwide attempt to lose weight or adopt strategies to control it. Some have resorted to the consumption of commercialized diet pills to achieve this goal. Multiple brands exist without clearly indicating their mechanism of action or adverse effects on human health.

Cystoid Macular Edema 18 Years after Anterior Chamber Phakic Intraocular Lens Implantation.

We report a case of a 54-year-old female patient who underwent PAC-IOL implantation 18 years prior to presentation. The patient had a best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) 20/20 in the right eye (OD) postoperatively with normal eye exam on routine follow-up since then. The patient presented for acute onset decreased visual acuity in the right eye.

Withholding and withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy in 8569 trauma patients: A multicentre, analytical registry study.

Background: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of withholding or withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy (WLST) decisions in trauma ICU patients, using a large registry. We hypothesised that this prevalence is similar to that of the general population admitted to an ICU. As secondary aims, it sought to describe the trauma patients for whom the decision was made for WLST and the factors associated with this decision.

Clearsight™ use for haemodynamic monitoring during the third trimester of pregnancy - a validation study.

Background: We assessed the validity of Clearsight™ as a non-invasive cardiac output and stroke volume monitoring device, comparing it with transthoracic echocardiography measurements during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Methods: Measurements obtained from Clearsight™ were compared with those from echocardiography as the gold standard. The precision and accuracy of the Clearsight™ was measured using the Bland and Altman method.
