Recent studies report that outdoor air pollution will become the main environmental cause of premature death over the next few decades (OECD, 2012; WHO, 2014; World Bank, 2016). Cities are considered hot spots and urban populations are particularly exposed. There is therefore an urgent need to adapt urban systems and urban design to tackle this issue.

Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) has shown benefits in the management of refractory in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) by improving survival. Nonetheless, the results concerning out-of-hospital refractory cardiac arrests (OHCA) remain uncertain. The aim of our investigation was to compare survival between the two groups.

Chlamydiae components and signaling pathway(s) responsible for the production of proinflammatory cytokines by human monocytes/macrophages are not clearly identified. To this aim, Chlamydia trachomatis-inactivated elementary bodies (EB) as well as the following seven individual Ags were tested for their ability to induce the production of proinflammatory cytokines by human monocytes/macrophages and THP-1 cells: purified LPS, recombinant heat shock protein (rhsp)70, rhsp60, rhsp10, recombinant polypeptide encoded by open reading frame 3 of the plasmid (rpgp3), recombinant macrophage infectivity potentiator (rMip), and recombinant outer membrane protein 2 (rOmp2). Aside from EB, rMip displayed the highest ability to induce release of IL-1beta, TNF-alpha, IL-6, and IL-8.

Local regulation of hematopoietic differentiation in the marrow requires close interactions with components of the microenvironment. In this study, we explored the capacity of human marrow hematopoietic progenitor cells to adhere in vitro to the extracellular matrix (ECM) secreted by human marrow fibroblasts. When marrow mononuclear cells were incubated on ECM-coated dishes, all types of progenitors adhered to this substrate through an active process requiring divalent cations and serum factors.
