Mycoplasma Pneumonia Complicated by Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: A case report.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a leading cause of a community-acquired respiratory illness occurring in children with manifestations occurring throughout the year but peaking in summer and early fall. Predominantly affecting school-aged children, the infection presents as pneumonia, featuring fever, cough, dyspnea, and sore throat. Extrapulmonary manifestations such as Stevens-Johnson have been rarely associated with mycoplasma pneumoniae infection presenting with ocular, oral, and genital involvement.

Molecular Mutations and Clinical Behavior in Bethesda III and IV Thyroid Nodules: A Comparative Study.

Thyroid cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy, and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective management. Fine needle aspiration cytology, guided by the Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology, categorizes thyroid nodules into six categories, with Bethesda III and IV representing indeterminate diagnoses that pose significant challenges for clinical decision-making. Understanding the molecular profiles of these categories may enhance diagnostic accuracy and guide treatment strategies.

Intraplaque Hemorrhage and Plaque Ulceration Are More Likely in Patients with Symptomatic Mild-to-Moderate Carotid Artery Stenosis than in Symptomatic and Asymptomatic High-Grade Stenosis: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: To compare a cohort of symptomatic patients with mild-to-moderate (<70%) carotid artery stenosis (CAS) with those patients with high-grade (≥70%) CAS (symptomatic and asymptomatic) to assess for markers that places them at a higher risk for stroke.

Methods: A propensity score-matched cohort study design for all patients who underwent carotid revascularization between 2015 and 2024 was utilized to compare the high-grade (≥70%) symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid stenosis groups against the mild to moderate (<70%) symptomatic carotid stenosis group. Matched variables included age, sex, and atrial fibrillation.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in neonates associated with pneumothorax: Case report.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic that was spread worldwide since 2019 and showed a highly contagious character affecting the lifestyle of people worldwide causing symptoms that are not limited to the respiratory system only but had multi-systemic effects that may progress to severe complications that roughly affect people's health. A newly recognized SARS-CoV-2-associated syndrome called pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome has been described worldwide. Initially, it was reported as hyper-inflammatory shock and "Kawasaki-like" symptoms with fever and conjunctivitis, a similar syndrome is also reported in neonates and called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome of neonates (MIS-N).

Knowledge of blood transfusion practices among medical students and residents.

A study was conducted to assess and compare the knowledge of blood transfusion practices among medical students and residents in Lebanese and Saudi medical institutions. The online survey consisted of 26 questions: 4 about personal data and experience with transfusion and 22 about knowledge on transfusion practices in the areas of blood donation and donor selection, production and storage of blood components, selection of appropriate blood components, administration of blood components, transfusion reactions, and complications. One hundred and twenty-six students from Saudi Arabia, 84 students from Lebanon, 31 residents from Saudi Arabia, and 23 residents from Lebanon participated in the survey.
