Personalized medicine is an emerging field that provides novel approaches to disease's early diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and prognosis based on the patient's criteria in gene expression, environmental factors, lifestyle, and diet. To date, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a significant global health burden, with an increasing incidence and significant death rates, despite advancements in surveillance, diagnosis, and therapeutic approaches. The majority of HCC lesions develop in patients with liver cirrhosis, carrying the risks of mortality associated with both the tumor burden and the cirrhosis.

Background: Viral hepatitis B and C are the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). With obesity, metabolic-related disorders are increasingly associated with a higher incidence of nonviral HCC. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics, tumor features, treatment outcomes, and survival of patients with viral versus nonviral HCC.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the effectiveness of macroscopic on-site evaluation (MOSE) during endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration/biopsy (EUS-FNA/FNB) in diagnosing solid lesions, particularly focusing on histological core sample adequacy.
  • Conducted across 16 medical centers in Egypt, Iraq, and Morocco, the study involved over 1000 patients and revealed that a significant majority of biopsied samples were adequate for histological evaluation, demonstrating a high diagnostic yield.
  • Results indicated that FNB needles performed best in terms of sensitivity and sample quality, highlighting the potential of MOSE as a valuable alternative to traditional rapid on-site evaluation methods.

Background: Warfarin patients who need dental extraction face the problem of bleeding and no sufficient hemostasis results in dry socket and postoperative pain. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the topical application of tranexamic acid-soaked absorbable Gelfoam (TXA-Gel) and saline-soaked absorbable Gelfoam (saline-Gel) in relieving postoperative pain following bilateral simple extraction of permanent mandibular molars in warfarin patients.

Methods: This was a randomized, triple-blinded, split-mouth, active-controlled clinical trial.

A straightforward, reliable, and cost-effective spectrofluorimetric approach has been established for the analysis of baloxavir marboxil (BXM) in raw material, tablets, as well as spiked human plasma. The approach relies on BXM's quenching impact on acetoxymercuric fluorescein (AMF) fluorescence intensity. To improve the reaction, factors such as AMF's concentration, solution's pH, diluting solvents, and reaction time were examined and optimized.
