Young-Onset Diabetes in Sri Lanka: Experience From the Developing World.

Young-onset diabetes (YOD) is characterised by unique diagnostic and management challenges more pronounced in resource-limited settings like Sri Lanka. We aimed to ascertain the prevalence, patterns and characteristics of YOD in Sri Lanka and describe the state of care. Retrospective review of baseline data of all patients enrolled in the prospective multicentre Database for Young-Onset Diabetes, Sri Lanka (DYOD-SL), was performed, from April 2021 to April 2023.

Primary hyperparathyroidism in pregnancy: experience of a tertiary centre.

Background And Purpose: The management of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) during pregnancy is challenging and there is no clear consensus on whether it increases the risk of complications in pregnancy. We conducted this study to review the maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnant women treated for PHPT in a single centre.

Methods: Data on relevant clinical parameters, demographics, management strategies, maternal and fetal outcomes were collected from the medical records of pregnant patients with PHPT diagnosed between 2012 and 2019.

Assessment of Prevalence, Associations ,Knowledge, and Practices about Diabetic Foot Disease in a Tertiary Care Hospital in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Background: One in five adults in Sri Lanka has either diabetes or prediabetes, and one-third of those with diabetes are undiagnosed. Diabetic foot is a debilitating condition affecting up to 50% of patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The risk of nontraumatic lower limb amputations is 15 times higher in diabetic patients when compared with nondiabetics.

Extracellular Matrix Injury of Kidney Allografts in Antibody-Mediated Rejection: A Proteomics Study.

Background: Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) accounts for >50% of kidney allograft loss. Donor-specific antibodies (DSA) against HLA and non-HLA antigens in the glomeruli and the tubulointerstitium cause AMR while inflammatory cytokines such as TNF trigger graft injury. The mechanisms governing cell-specific injury in AMR remain unclear.

A pragmatic assessment of the British Thyroid Association "U classification" of thyroid nodules with a focus on their follow-up.

Aim: To assess the predictive value of the U classification and the significance of follow-up ultrasound in those managed conservatively.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective observational study was carried out among 1,465 patients who underwent thyroid ultrasound in 2016 at a teaching hospital in UK. Details regarding U classification of nodules, cytology, histology in patients who underwent surgery, and follow-up ultrasound in those managed conservatively were obtained.
