Understanding the Association Between Social Determinants of Health and Receipt of Immunotherapy for Melanoma.

Purpose: In this review article, we sought to elucidate how the social determinants of health, including socioeconomic status, education, neighborhood or physical environment, access to healthcare, and race/ethnicity, affect the likelihood of receiving immunotherapy, a novel and expensive treatment for melanoma.  Methods: The PubMed database was queried up to May 2023, for studies pertaining to health disparities in melanoma, including studies examining the utilization of immunotherapy agents for the treatment of melanoma across various social determinants of health.

Results: Disparities in the utilization of immunotherapy exist across various social determinants.

Should Transplant Nephrology Pursue Recognition from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)?

Kidney transplant is not only the best treatment for patients with advanced kidney disease but it also reduces health care expenditure. The management of transplant patients is complex as they require special care by transplant nephrologists who have expertise in assessing transplant candidates, understand immunology and organ rejection, have familiarity with perioperative complications, and have the ability to manage the long-term effects of chronic immunosuppression. This skill set at the intersection of multiple disciplines necessitates additional training in Transplant Nephrology.

Effects of wearable therapies on jump performance in sport horses.

Introduction: Failure to properly prepare the equine athlete for exercise and support post-exercise recovery is a contributing factor to physical breakdown and lameness. Equine physiotherapy was not introduced until the early twentieth century and has since evolved to allow for wearable therapies such as therapeutic boots to be accessible to a broad spectrum of equestrians. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of ceramic boots, boots combining vibration and cryotherapy, and boots containing tourmaline on the performance of sport horses during jumping as well as to examine changes in vital signs in response to treatment.

Effects of treatment methods on cutaneous melanoma related mortality and all-cause mortality in Texas: TCR-Medicare 2007-2017 database.

Purpose: The incidence of cutaneous melanoma is rising, and Melanoma related deaths are highest among people aged 65-74. Herein, we aim to understand the impact of novel and established melanoma treatment methods on CM related mortality and all-cause mortality. We further compared these effects among Hispanic and non-Hispanic Whites (NHW).

Stroke and kidney transplantation.

Purpose Of Review: This review will focus on the epidemiological data, risk factors, and management of stroke before and after kidney transplant. Stroke is highly prevalent in waitlisted patients as well as kidney transplant recipients and is associated with impaired transplant outcomes. Multiple traditional, nontraditional, and transplanted risk factors increase the risk of stroke.
