Article Synopsis
  • Many kidney transplant patients are classified as having no rejection after biopsy, but some may actually have undetected rejection activities.
  • A study of over 5,000 biopsies found that more than half were marked as no rejection, yet many showed signs of subthreshold T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR) and antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR).
  • Patients with these hidden rejection activities are at increased risk of future graft issues, as higher levels of TCMR and ABMR correlate with worse kidney function and higher chances of rejection in subsequent biopsies.

Introduction: Remdesivir is the first agent with proven clinical efficacy against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, its benefit is associated with early use, and its efficacy has been poorly studied in patients with hemato-oncological diseases, who have an increased risk of a severe course of infection. This study aimed to assess the effects of remdesivir on mortality, mechanical ventilation, and the duration of hospitalization in both the general population and in patients with hemato-oncological diseases.

Materials And Methods: Longitudinal data for 4287 patients with confirmed COVID-19 were analyzed, including a subset of 200 individuals with hemato-oncological diseases.

Background/aims: Tacrolimus is an immunosuppressive drug. Its C0 concentration, commonly used for monitoring, does not always correspond to its pharmacologic effect. Thölking et al developed an indicator, the C/D ratio, that describes the drug's metabolism rate.

The impairment of organ function due to ischemia-reperfusion injury is still an important problem in solid organ transplantation. Numerous experimental and clinical studies of native organs have shown that ischemia-reperfusion constitutes an acute inflammatory process involving cell surface adhesion molecule expression. These markers are crucial for the recruitment and infiltration of effector cells into the postischemic tissue.

Adhesion molecule expression is an important event during early transplant failure. The aim of the present study was to examine the release of adhesion molecules during the first minutes of kidney allograft reperfusion in relation to delayed graft function and acute graft rejection. We enrolled 49 renal transplant recipients, including 13 cases of delayed graft function (DGF) and 11 cases of acute graft rejection (AR).
