To correlate students' performance with their professional background and motivation to take part in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses. We base our analysis on the self-determination theory that differentiates intrinsic (ambition to perform by individual itself) from extrinsic motivation (incentive by external stimuli). We present a non-blinded, monocentric, non-randomized descriptive study of 376 students taking part in an ATLS course at one course site in Germany.

In a retrospective study the cases of possibly false medical treatment investigated by the Health Advisory Boards (MDK) in Lower Saxony and Bremen, Germany, in the years from 2012 to 2015 were analyzed. All relevant data - especially diagnoses and procedures - were recorded in accordance to a standardized data entry form and were evaluated. In addition, relevant case studies are presented.

Since 1955 simultaneous presentation of acute appendicitis und acute cholecystitis have been described. These cases are understood as concomitance on the one hand and as imitation or induction of acute cholecystitis due to acute appendicitis. In laparoscopic surgery for inflammatory diseases, in particular acute cholecystitis, exploration of the entire abdomen should be more than cursory.
