The claustrum is a small but densely interconnected brain structure that is innervated by axons containing serotonin (5-HT), a neuromodulator that has been implicated in control of sleep and in the actions of psychedelic drugs. However, little is known about how 5-HT influences the claustrum. We have combined whole-cell patch-clamp measurements of ionic currents, flash photolysis, and receptor pharmacology to characterize the 5-HT responses of individual claustral projection neurons (PNs) in mouse brain slices.

Background: Ultrashort echo time (UTE) allows imaging of tissues with short relaxation times, but it comes with the expense of long scan times. Magnitude images of UTE magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are widely used in pulmonary imaging due to excellent parenchymal signal, but have insufficient contrast for other anatomical regions of the thorax. Our work investigates the value of UTE phase images (UTE-Ps)-generated simultaneously from the acquired UTE signal used for the magnitude images-for the detection of thoracic lymph nodes based on water-fat contrast.

Background: Health promotion and growth-based interventions can effectively improve individual well-being; however, significant gaps in access and utilization still exist.

Objective: This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness and implementation of a new, widely targeted conversational agent prevention program (Zenny) designed to enhance well-being.

Methods: A total of 1345 individuals in the United States were recruited online and randomly assigned to either (1) a self-help program intervention delivered via an automated conversational agent on WhatsApp or (2) an active control group that had access to evidence-based wellness resources available online.
