Departing from the well-known influences exerted on the picture of the cerebral potential by an intracranial space-occupying process, the persisting pathological EEG findings with proved absence of recidivity have been determined in this study. These investigations were based on the postoperative EEG leads of 204 patients with cerebral operations with a determination of the persisting focal disturbances, the general changes and the signs of an increased tendency to attacks and, with respect to possible consequences, a correlation with the morphological criteria-position and size of defect of the cerebral parenchyma, the extent of the cerebral ventricles, the histological dignity-being carried out.

On the one hand we compared the resulting long-term pressure behaviour of the VFP (ventricular fluid pressure) with clinical and paraclinical parameters and, on the other, with the consumed sorbitol dose. In this procedure advantages of the automatically dehydrating cerebral oedema therapy could be proved.

The changes were dependent upon the size of the tumours and the kind and direction of their infiltration growth into the paraventricular structure. In case of purely intraventricular spreading of the disturbance of the cerebral fluid circulation normal curves were found.

The evaluation included pre- and postoperative Eegs of 147 patients who were operated on because of a hypophysoma by the subfrontal or the transphenoidal way. For comparison proper, the Eeg series of 64 patients were used. No verified differences between the two surgical accesses were found with respect to the effects on the total brain organ.

A total of 238 patients with space-occupying tumours in the region of the 4th ventricle and the cranio-spinal transitional region were examined electroencephalographically. In all cases, the findings were confirmed by an operation or autopsy. 219 tumours were confined to the 4th ventricle and another 7 patients showed tumours of the cranio-spinal transitional zone.
