Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus represents one of the greatest challenges for livestock production in tropical and subtropical regions. Its control has been based on the use of synthetic chemical acaricides, which has led to the development of resistance to active ingredients belonging to the pyrethroid and organophosphate groups. Therefore, the search for new compounds with acaricidal potential is a priority in the control of ticks in cattle.

Studies rigorously evaluating the relationship between time-varying lifecourse socio-economic status (SES) and cognitive aging primarily focus on non-Hispanic White adults with relatively high SES. We used data from the CHAMACOS Maternal Cognition Study (2022-2024), which included middle-aged, primarily Latina women who experienced relatively low lifecourse SES (n = 519). Participants provided information on early childhood (parental education), mid to late childhood (respondent education), and midlife SES (current poverty level), and completed the SOL-INCA neurocognitive assessment, yielding global and domain-specific cognitive performance z-scores.

A novel method based on volumetric absorptive micro-sampling (VAMS) combined with UPLC-MS/MS was developed and validated to determine the principal (poly)phenolic metabolites in human blood following the consumption of 140 g of purple whole-grain barley (WGB) biscuits. Finger-prick blood samples were collected from 11 healthy volunteers at multiple time points up to 48 h post-ingestion. To extract (poly)phenolic metabolites efficiently, various extraction parameters were optimized.

Background: Hypoattenuated leaflet thickening (HALT) is believed to reflect leaflet thrombosis; however, no systematic histological examination of HALT has ever been performed. The aim of this study was to evaluate histological findings of explanted self-expanding transcatheter aortic bioprosthetic valves from clinical trials and to compare microCT findings of suspected HALT with histology findings of valve thrombosis and its characterization over time.

Methods: A total of 123 self-expanding transcatheter aortic valves were collected through autopsy (n=89) or surgical explant (n=34) from 11 CoreValve/Evolut clinical trials.
