Management of Labral Tears in the Hip: A Consensus Statement.

Background: Inconsistencies in the workup of labral tears in the hip have been shown to result in a delay in treatment and an increased cost to the medical system.

Purpose: To establish consensus statements among Canadian nonoperative/operative sports medicine physicians via a modified Delphi process on the diagnosis, nonoperative and operative management, and rehabilitation and return to play (RTP) of those with labral tears in the hip.

Study Design: A consensus statement.

When to pair: Effects of different pairing ages on dairy calf health, behavior and performance.

Pair housing presents an alternative to individual or larger group housing systems, though the effects of different pairing ages on calf welfare are not well understood. In this study, we examined the impact of pairing age on the performance, health, and behavior of dairy calves. A total of 140 Holstein female calves (n = 70 pairs) were used, paired at 3 ages: Early (6-7 d; 48 calves), Intermediate (29-30 d; 48 calves), and Late pairing (49-50 d; 44 calves).

New Application of an Old Drug: Anti-Diabetic Properties of Phloroglucinol.

Phloroglucinol (PHG), an analgesic and spasmolytic drug, shows promise in preventing high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance. In Wistar rats, 10 weeks of PHG treatment did not prevent HFD-induced weight gain but significantly mitigated fasting hyperglycemia, impaired insulin responses, and liver steatosis. This protective effect was not linked to hepatic lipogenesis or AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation.

The BDNF Protein is Associated With Glucose Homeostasis and Food Intake in Carriers of Common BDNF Gene Variants.

Context: Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) concentrations may differ between BDNF genotype carriers. These changes occur in individuals with metabolic and mental disorders.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the associations of glucose homeostasis parameters and the frequency of food consumption with BDNF protein concentrations based on BDNF single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs).

Incidence of Concussions in Elite Female Water Polo: A Retrospective Analysis.

Objective: Current evidence for concussions is mixed in water polo players. Surveys suggest rates as high as 36%, whereas surveillance studies at international competitions often fail to report them at all. The goal of this study was to examine the incidence of concussions in elite female water polo players from surveillance tools implemented longitudinally.
