Advancements in Ultrasound Diagnosis of Superficial Endometriosis: Current Challenges and Emerging Techniques.

Background: Endometriosis is a chronic disease characterized by endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. Superficial endometriosis (SE) is the most prevalent form, yet it remains underdiagnosed due to subtle clinical and imaging presentations. Traditionally, diagnosis relies on laparoscopy, which is relatively invasive and often contributes to diagnostic delay.

Shifting from axillary dissection to targeted axillary surgery after neoadjuvant treatment: the evolving management of occult breast cancer in a monoinstitutional series of 114 patients.

Purpose: The use of neoadjuvant systemic therapy for primary breast cancer can achieve tumor shrinkage, enabling less invasive surgical treatments, such as breast-conserving surgery instead of mastectomy, and sentinel node biopsy instead of axillary dissection. In recent years, an increasing number of studies have explored the use of primary systemic therapy for occult breast cancer with axillary presentation. These studies suggest that a more conservative approach, involving targeted axillary surgery could be cautiously proposed for occult breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in selected patients.

Objective: Endometriosis ultrasound is an accurate, cost-effective, and non-invasive diagnostic tool that can help improve the diagnostic delay that patients with endometriosis experience. As an emerging diagnostic method, the perspectives of patients undergoing endometriosis ultrasound remain unexplored. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop and validate an assessment tool that evaluates patient-reported experiences with endometriosis ultrasound as a decision-making tool.
