Article Synopsis
  • Anti-GD2 antibody therapy offers benefits for neuroblastoma patients, but its effectiveness is limited by the tumor's immunosuppressive environment.
  • Research shows that using copper chelation can enhance this therapy by improving immune responses, specifically by boosting the activity of neutrophils that help fight the tumor.
  • The study suggests repurposing the approved copper chelator Cuprior as a safe and effective method to improve the outcomes of anti-GD2 therapy in neuroblastoma patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Mature sunflowers typically face east, which was thought to attract more insect pollinators.
  • Three field experiments were conducted to test whether this eastward orientation actually increases pollinator activity by measuring trapped insects and landing occurrences on sunflowers.
  • The results showed that the number of pollinators remained consistent throughout the day, regardless of the direction the sunflowers faced, suggesting that orientation does not significantly impact pollinator attraction.

α-Synuclein (αSyn) aggregates, detected in the biofluids of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), have the ability to catalyze their own aggregation, leading to an increase in the number and size of aggregates. This self-templated amplification is used by newly developed assays to diagnose Parkinson's disease and turns the presence of αSyn aggregates into a biomarker of the disease. It has become evident that αSyn can form fibrils with slightly different structures, called "strains" or polymorphs, but little is known about their differential reactivity in diagnostic assays.

Even the Kraepelinian concept of dementia praecox suggests a link between schizophrenia and various cognitive deficits. Although cognitive impairment is not a fundamental symptom of schizophrenia, it is considered to be one of the basic features of the disease. The deficit can affect a number of cognitive domains and is most often specific.
