Twenty-first century alienation and health: a research agenda.

Alienation has been used as a crucial concept to describe the negative psychosocial impacts that stem from the ways production and consumption are organised in Marxist and non-Marxist traditions. The psychosocial impacts it generates are mediated through stress pathways to increase non-communicable physical and mental illnesses. There has been little empirical research on the impact of alienation on health and ways in which the impact might be reduced.

Exercise prior to cognitive behavior therapy sessions for depression: a feasibility pilot study.

Exercise directly improves mood and cognition. Providing exercise immediately before cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) sessions may therefore enhance the clinical responsiveness to CBT. The present pilot study examined the feasibility and direction of effect of exercise+CBT versus CBT in depressed outpatients using a stepped wedged design.

Impact of Perioperative Blood Transfusion on Postoperative Outcomes in Neonates.

Introduction: Neonatal postoperative outcomes may be negatively affected by perioperative red blood cell transfusion (RBCT). This study compared 30-day postoperative outcomes between transfused and non-transfused neonates.

Methods: The National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Pediatric dataset (2021-2022) was used to analyze the association between RBCT and 30-day morbidity and mortality after neonatal surgery.

Identification of Anthrax as the Cause of a Cluster of Unexplained Deaths, Uganda, 2023: The Role of Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing and Postmortem Specimens.

Between April and November 2023, 27 unexplained human deaths that presented with swelling of the arms, skin sores with black centers, difficulty in breathing, obstructed swallowing, headaches, and other body aches were reported in Kyotera District, Uganda by the Public Health Emergency Operations Center. Subsequently, the death of cattle on farms and the consumption of carcass meat by some residents were also reported. Field response teams collected clinical/epidemiological data and autopsy samples to determine the cause of deaths.
