A novel photoreceptor dualchrome 1 (DUC1), containing a fused structure of cryptochrome and phytochrome, was discovered in the marine green alga Pycnococcus provasolli. The DUC1 phytochrome region (PpDUC1-N) binds to the bilin (linear tetrapyrrole) chromophores, phytochromobilin (PΦB) or phycocyanobilin (PCB), and reversibly photoconverts between the orange-absorbing dark-adapted state and the far-red-absorbing photoproduct state. This contrasts with typical phytochromes, which photoconvert between the red-absorbing dark-adapted and far-red-absorbing photoproduct states.

Here we report that C-C single bond cleavage in 1,2-diaryl-1,2-diborylethanes proceeds by reduction with sodium metal to yield α-boryl benzylsodium species. In combination with our previous reductive diboration of stilbenes, the overall transformation represents reductive cleavage of the C=C double bonds of stilbene to yield α-boryl-α-sodiated toluenes.

Methods: This phase 3, double-blind study randomized healthy Japanese infants to receive 4 doses (3 infant doses, 1 toddler dose) of PCV20 by subcutaneous (SC) or intramuscular (IM) injection or 13-valent PCV (PCV13) SC. A primary immunogenicity objective was to demonstrate noninferiority of PCV20 SC to PCV13 SC for percentages of participants meeting predefined serotype-specific immunoglobulin G concentrations 1 month after Dose 3.
Ageing is associated with a decline in circadian clock systems, which correlates with the development of ageing-associated diseases. Chrononutrition is a field of chronobiology that examines the relationship between the timing of meal/nutrition and circadian clock systems. Although there is growing evidence regarding the role of chrononutrition in the prevention of lifestyle and ageing-related diseases, the optimal timing of meal intake to regulate the circadian clock in humans remains unknown.

Context: Tramadol is conditionally recommended for cancer pain and is a less expensive drug compared to strong opioids. Thus, tramadol may help reduce health care costs.
Objectives: To investigate factors that predict the clinical efficacy of tramadol for cancer pain.
