Successful staged surgery for advanced esophageal cancer after conversion pancreatoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy.

Background: Complex surgery during initial cancer treatment can limit surgical options when planning management of a secondary malignancy. Subtotal esophagectomy and pancreatoduodenectomy are the most invasive and difficult procedures in gastroenterological surgery. Surgical cases in which subtotal esophagectomy was performed after pancreatoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy are extremely rare and challenging procedures due to the resulting complicated anatomical changes.

Studies have associated neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with gastric cancer (GC). The present study aimed to examine the relationship between dynamic changes in NLR during treatment and disease progression in patients with unresectable or recurrent GC treated with nivolumab monotherapy as a third-line or later regimen. Patients treated with nivolumab as a third-line or later therapy for unresectable or recurrent GC at Gifu University Hospital (Gifu, Japan) from April 2017 to December 2021 were included.

Background: The glycocalyx (GCX) is a glycan structure on the vascular endothelium and cancer cells. It is crucial for blood flow regulation, tumor invasion, and cancer drug resistance. Understanding the role of GCX in human tumors could help develop new cancer biomarkers and therapies.

Successful Surgical Resection of Pancreatic Arteriovenous Malformation Complicated by Acute Pancreatitis: A Case Report.

A 73-year-old man presented with left hypochondral pain. Dynamic computed tomography (CT) revealed abnormal vessels surrounding the pancreas, leading to a suspected diagnosis of pancreatic arteriovenous malformation (PAVM). At the time of the initial examination, dynamic CT revealed mild acute pancreatitis, and PAVM was diagnosed based on the findings of dynamic CT.
