Duration of SARS-CoV-2 RNA detection in COVID-19 patients in home isolation, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, 2020 - an interval-censored survival analysis.

We analysed consecutive RT-qPCR results of 537 symptomatic coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients in home quarantine. Respectively 2, 3, and 4 weeks after symptom onset, 50%, 25% and 10% of patients had detectable RNA from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). In patients with mild COVID-19, RNA detection is likely to outlast currently known periods of infectiousness by far and fixed time periods seem more appropriate in determining the length of home isolation than laboratory-based approaches.

Comparison of screw and screwless fixation in cementless total knee arthroplasty.

This study compared two groups of consecutive patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with an identical cementless tibial baseplate supplementally fixated with and without screws. In 58 TKAs, two 6.5-mm cancellous screws were used for fixation, and in 58 TKAs, screwless fixation was used.

Treatment of postoperative anterior cruciate ligament infections with graft removal and early reimplantation.

Background: Septic arthritis after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is rare, and the most appropriate treatment is unclear. Current recommendations are that, if the graft is removed, reimplantation should be delayed for 6 to 9 months.

Pitfalls associated with fixation of osteochondritis dissecans fragments using bioabsorbable screws.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate 2 cases in which bioabsorbable screw fixation for an osteochondritis dissecans lesion of the femoral condyle resulted in complications necessitating the need for secondary surgery. We reviewed the case history of these patients and described the circumstances under which the bioabsorbable screws were used, the events leading to the need for secondary surgery, and the ultimate outcome. In the 2 cases presented, these implants were found to retain their mechanical stiffness for many months.
