Aim Of Study: To determine a single centre incidence, rate of early and late complications and sequelae and histological characteristics of solitary rectosigmoideal polyps in children.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of hospital charts and histological characteristics of patients operated for rectosigmoideal polyps between January 1995 and December 2005. There were 23 children operated on, the study group consists of 20 patients (3 patients were excluded because of insufficient documentation).
Hirschsprung's disease (HD) can be associated with the development of neuroendocrine tumours such as medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC). The RET proto-oncogene is the major gene responsible for both HD and MTC. Mutations in exon 10 (codons 609, 611, 618, 620) were found in patients with co-occurrence of HD and MTC.

The aetiology of IND B remains largely obscure. The congenital origin of IND B is supposed; nevertheless, the findings of IND B associated with chronic intestinal obstruction support the notion that this disease could be caused by a reaction of the enteral nervous system to intestinal obstruction or inflammatory disease either in the fetal or the postnatal period.

A right-sided hemicolectomy with a removal of a large retroperitoneal cyst extending behind the liver up to the diaphragm on the right side, was conducted. Histology confirmed a mucous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix.
