Craniopagus: a proposed nursing care protocol.

Craniopagus is a rare condition in which the skulls of conjoined twins, and the neurovascular structures in their skulls, are incompletely separated. Separation surgery is complex and requires a range of skills and expertise, including from all the nursing teams involved. A multidisciplinary group of professionals in a tertiary paediatric care setting in Italy developed a comprehensive protocol for the nursing care of craniopagus twins in hospital, informed by the findings of a literature review and the expertise of its members.

The clinical effectiveness of an integrated multidisciplinary evidence-based program to prevent intraoperative pressure injuries in high-risk children undergoing long-duration surgical procedures: A quality improvement study.

The prevention of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) in children undergoing long-duration surgical procedures is of critical importance due to the potential for catastrophic sequelae of these generally preventable injuries for the child and their family. Long-duration surgical procedures in children have the potential to result in high rates of HAPI due to physiological factors and the difficulty or impossibility of repositioning these patients intraoperatively. We developed and implemented a multi-modal, multi-disciplinary translational HAPI prevention quality improvement program at a large European Paediatric University Teaching Hospital.

The lack of standardization on the definition and methods in microplastic (MP) research has limited the overall interpretation and intercomparison of published data. This has presented different solutions to assess the presence of these pollutants in the natural environment, bringing the science forward. Microplastics have been reported worldwide across different biological levels and environmental compartments.

Infection by CagA-Positive Helicobacter pylori Strains and Bone Fragility: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is a common and persistent disorder acting as a major cofactor for the development of upper gastrointestinal diseases and several extraintestinal disorders including osteoporosis. However, no prospective study assessed the effects of HP on bone health and fracture risk. We performed a HP screening in a population-based cohort of 1149 adults followed prospectively for up to 11 years.

Preventive Role of Vitamin D Supplementation for Acute Phase Reaction after Bisphosphonate Infusion in Paget's Disease.

Context: Intravenous aminobisphosphonates (N-BPs) can induce an acute phase reaction (APR) in up to 40% to 70% of first infusions, causing discomfort and often requiring intervention with analgesics or antipyretics.

Objective: Our aim was to explore the risk factors of APR in a large sample of patients with Paget's disease of bone (PDB) and to assess the possible preventive effects of vitamin D administration.

Methods: An observational analysis was performed in 330 patients with PDB at the time of N-BP infusion.
