Development of a murine laser interstitial thermotherapy system.

Objective: The objective of this study was to develop a murine system for the delivery of laser interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) with probe-based thermometry as a model for human glioblastoma treatment to investigate thermal diffusion in heterogeneous brain tissue.

Methods: First, the tissue heating properties were characterized using a diode-pumped solid-state near-infrared laser in a homogeneous tissue model. The laser was adapted for use with a repurposed stereotactic surgery frame utilizing a micro laser probe and Hamilton syringe.

Complications following laser interstitial thermal therapy: a review.

Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is being performed more frequently for various lesions within neurosurgery, including epileptic foci, vascular malformations, and tumors. Though this technique generally has an excellent safety profile, it is important to be aware of potential complications. Thermal ablation of tissue leads to disruption of the blood brain barrier as well as an inflammatory response both of which cause the majority of complications from LITT.

Fraunhofer diffraction at the two-dimensional quadratically distorted (QD) grating.

A two-dimensional (2D) mathematical model of quadratically distorted (QD) grating is established with the principles of Fraunhofer diffraction and Fourier optics. A discrete sampling method is applied for finding a numerical solution of the diffraction pattern of QD grating. An optimized working phase term, which determines the balanced energies and high efficiency of multi-plane images, can be obtained by the bisection algorithm.

Psychiatric Symptoms, Psychosocial Factors, and Life Satisfaction Among Persons With Serious Mental Illness: A Path Analysis.

This study explores the effects of biopsychosocial factors on life satisfaction among persons with serious mental illness. Participants in this study included a convenience sample of 194 adults recruited from Texas and Wisconsin. A path analysis was conducted with psychiatric symptoms as an exogenous variable, and illness insight, social self-efficacy, social support, community integration, and life satisfaction as endogenous variables.

The impact of motivational interviewing training on rehabilitation counselors: Assessing working alliance and client engagement. A randomized controlled trial.

Objective: To determine the impact of a motivational interviewing (MI) training designed to improve rehabilitation counselors' counseling skills to promote clients' engagement in return-to-work behaviors and to establish strong working alliance.

Participants: The target population for this study was counselors who work for the state vocational rehabilitation (VR) program and their clients. Data were collected from a total of 347 participants (67 counselors and 280 clients) in the experimental and comparison groups, during the pre-and-posttests.
