Up to date, tele-pathology in the three different forms of application, "dynamic", "static" and "virtual microscopy" has been mainly based on tele-hystology remote consulting. Today the diffusion of specialized WAN connections is guiding the research of new applications of tele-pathology. A specific analysis has been conducted, focused on digital cytology, in the biomedical laboratory of Sant'Andrea Hospital to investigate the technologies potentially useful to integrate in the LAN/WAN for telemedicine applications.

Background: Deep vein thrombosis and subsequently pulmonary embolism are the most common causes of increased post-operative morbidity and mortality in patients with pelvic or abdominal cancer. Aim of the study was to evaluate variations in coagulative parameters induced by two accepted primary prophylaxis patterns: standardized low doses of unfractioned heparin (UFH) or single doses of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in cancer patients submitted to radical retropubic prostatectomy.

Methods: Fifty patients (45-75 yr) were randomly assigned two groups.

During general anesthesia adverse reactions are not uncommon, and the hypothesis of an anaphylactic response cannot be excluded. In these situations, a differential diagnosis from other events which often present identical clinical manifestations is necessary. For this purpose measurement of serum tryptase, as a biochemical marker of the release of mast-cell granules, is considered a valuable and specific method, especially if it is carried out on several hematic samples, obtained in successive times, for pointing out the progressive reduction of the values.

Background: Preneoplastic lesions of endometrium such as endometrial hyperplasia (simple and complex with or without cytological atypias) represent an important cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. Among diagnostic techniques, hysteroscopy presents several advantages: it is an out-patient procedure, minimally invasive, repeatable, of rapid execution and with low cost. The hysteroscopic pattern of endometrial hyperplasia appears with an over-development of the endometrial mucosa with increased glandular openings, increased vascularization, cystic dilatations, polypoid aspects.
