Article Synopsis
  • Prostate cancer is a common and serious health issue in men over 70, prompting the study of preventive measures to reduce infection rates from transrectal prostate biopsies (PB).
  • Researchers conducted a study with 544 patients, dividing them into three groups to test different antibiotic regimens prior to the biopsy.
  • The results showed only 1.83% experienced infectious complications, with no significant difference between the antibiotic groups, suggesting that short-term prophylactic antibiotics like fosfomycin trometamol can be effective alternatives to traditional fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
