Two sides of the same coin: Weathering differences of plastic fragments in coastal environments around the globe.

Plastic debris in coastal environments usually undergoes weathering due to various environmental conditions. However, the weathering effects on exposed and shaded sides of the same plastics are underexplored. In this study, 1573 plastic fragments were collected from 15 coastal sites worldwide between December 2021 and December 2022, and weathering experiments were conducted outdoors.

Objectives: To explore the influenza and COVID-19 vaccination status among Dutch nursing home (NH) health care workers (HCWs), factors associated with vaccination including the influence of the pandemic, and the facilitators and barriers to vaccination willingness.

Design: An explanatory sequential mixed methods study.

Ocean-Wide Conservation Genomics of Blue Whales Suggest New Northern Hemisphere Subspecies.

The blue whale is an endangered and globally distributed species of baleen whale with multiple described subspecies, including the morphologically and genetically distinct pygmy blue whale. North Atlantic and North Pacific populations, however, are currently regarded as a single subspecies despite being separated by continental land masses and acoustic call differences. To determine the degree of isolation among the Northern Hemisphere populations, 14 North Pacific and 6 Western Australian blue whale nuclear and mitochondrial genomes were sequenced and analysed together with 11 publicly available North Atlantic blue whale genomes.
