The maize aquaporin ZmPIP1;6 enhances stomatal opening and CO2- and ABA-induced stomatal closure.

The plasma membrane aquaporin ZmPIP1;6 is expressed in maize stomatal complexes, with higher expression during the day than at night. To elucidate the role of ZmPIP1;6 in gas exchange and stomatal movement, it was expressed in maize (inbred line B104) under the control of p35S promoter (OE) or its native promoter fused with mYFP cDNA (mYFP-ZmPIP1;6). In stomatal complexes of the leaf mature zone, mYFP-ZmPIP1;6 showed higher expression in subsidiary cells than in guard cells, with light and dark treatments influencing its subcellular localization.

Reductive Activation of Artefenomel (OZ439) by Fe(II)-Heme, Related to Its Antimalarial Activity.

The 1,2,4-trioxolane antimalarial drug, OZ439 (artefenomel), exhibits cross-resistance to artemisinins with similar survival rates of artemisinin-resistant parasites after dihydroartemisinin or OZ439 exposure, suggesting that this drug shares some mechanisms of action with artemisinins. In this way, we investigated the reductive activation of OZ439 by heme in the presence of dithionite, demonstrating the formation of covalent heme-drug adducts. However, in the presence of the biologically abundant reductant glutathione instead of dithionite, heme-drug adducts were not detected, contrary to artemisinin that efficiently alkylates heme regardless of the reductant used.

Changes in rates of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery over the last 23years.

Purpose: Acute postoperative endophthalmitis (APE) is a rare but severe complication of cataract surgery. During the most recent decades, the use of povidone-iodine (PVI) before surgery combined with intracameral cefuroxime has drastically reduced the incidence of endophthalmitis. The goal of this study is to describe the changes in endophthalmitis rates after cataract surgery over the past two decades in a large tertiary ophthalmology center.

Hospital care trajectories of older adults with cancer and the associated clinical profiles.

Background: The longitudinal hospital care experiences of older adults with cancer, from the treatment decision-making process until their end of life, remain unexplored. We examined the hospital care trajectories of these patients and identified associated clinical determinants.

Materials And Methods: We linked the ELCAPA multicenter cohort study (patients aged ≥70 with a solid tumor and having been referred for a geriatric assessment between 2012 and 2019) and the Greater Paris University Hospitals' clinical data warehouse.
