Beyond the role of bats as natural host reservoirs of infectious agents, the impact of viral spillover from other animal species to bats has been neglected. Given the limited virus-host specificity of astroviruses (AstVs) and their propensity for cross-species transmission, we hypothesized that AstVs could be transmitted within animal communities (rodents, birds, and bats) and that native endemic bats may be exposed to viruses hosted by other species. Studying the behavior of providers who transition patients in critical care may guide future interventions that ultimately improve patient safety in this setting.
Objective: To establish the feasibility of using the Theory of Planned Behavior in a trauma environment and to describe provider behavior elements during trauma patient transfers (de-escalations) to non-critical care units.
Background: Research supports the use of mobile phone apps to promote medication adherence, but the use of and satisfaction with these apps among medically underserved patients with chronic illnesses remain unclear.
Objective: This study reports on the overall use of and satisfaction with a medication adherence app (Medisafe) in a medically underserved population.
Methods: Medically underserved adults who received care for one or more chronic illnesses at a federally qualified health center (FQHC) were randomized to an intervention group in a larger randomized controlled trial and used the app for 1 month (n=30), after which they completed a web-based survey.

Maintenance of lysosomal integrity is essential for cellular homeostasis and lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) sensitizes toward cell death. Damaged lysosomes are repaired or degraded via lysophagy, during which glycans, exposed on ruptured lysosomal membranes, are recognized by galectins leading to K48- and K63-linked poly-ubiquitination (poly-Ub) of lysosomal proteins followed by recruitment of the macroautophagic/autophagic machinery and degradation.
