Mutations of the von Hippel-Lindau () tumor suppressor gene occur frequently in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the predominant histology of kidney cancer, and have been associated with its pathogenesis and progression. Alterations of lead to impaired degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) and HIF2α promoting neoangiogenesis, which is pivotal for cancer growth. As such, targeting the VHL-HIF axis holds relevant potential for therapeutic purposes.

This report describes the first long-term survival following a heart transplant for Williams syndrome-associated cardiac pathologies. An 11-year-old patient with severe global left ventricular dysfunction presented with heart failure and underwent heart transplantation. Her peri- and post-operative courses were complicated by hypertension related to underlying vascular pathology.

Construction machines, for example cranes, excavators, or bulldozers, are widely diffused systems operating outdoors in harsh and dangerous environments, such as building sites, forests, and mines. Typically, construction machines require the on-site presence of highly skilled users to manage the complexity of their control and the high power of hydraulic actuation. Despite the advances in bionic reconstruction of missing limbs, the control of robotic limbs is still limited and, in most cases, not felt to be as natural by users. In this study, we introduce a control approach that combines robotic design based on postural synergies and neural decoding of synergistic behavior of spinal motoneurons. We developed a soft prosthetic hand with two degrees of actuation that realizes postures in a two-dimensional linear manifold generated by two postural synergies.
