Network models provide a general representation of inter-connected system dynamics. This ability to connect systems has led to a proliferation of network models for economic productivity analysis, primarily estimated non-parametrically using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). While network DEA models can be used to measure system performance, they lack a statistical framework for inference, due in part to the complex structure of network processes.

Electric double-layer (EDL) gating using a custom-synthesized polyester single-ion conductor (PE400-Li) is demonstrated on two-dimensional (2D) crystals for the first time. The electronic properties of graphene and MoTe field-effect transistors (FETs) gated with the single-ion conductor are directly compared to a poly(ethylene oxide) dual-ion conductor (PEO:CsClO). The anions in the single-ion conductor are covalently bound to the backbone of the polymer, leaving only the cations free to form an EDL at the negative electrode and a corresponding cationic depletion layer at the positive electrode.

This speed of analysis coupled with little or no sample preparation makes LIBS an attractive detection tool. In this study, it is demonstrated that LIBS can be utilized to discriminate both the bacterial species and strains of bacterial colonies grown on blood agar.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe goal of this work is a detailed study of uranium detection by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for application to activities associated with environmental surveillance and detecting weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The study was used to assist development of LIBS instruments for standoff detection of bulk radiological and nuclear materials and these materials distributed as contaminants on surfaces. Uranium spectra were analyzed under a variety of different conditions at room pressure, reduced pressures, and in an argon atmosphere.
