Transmission of Campylobacter spp. to chickens during transport to slaughter.

Aims: To determine the prevalence of Campylobacter-contaminated transport crates and to determine whether contaminated crates represent a risk for contamination of chickens during transport to slaughter.

Methods And Results: Samples were collected from cleaned transport crates before they were dispatched to the farms. Chicken groups were sampled within 24 h before transport to slaughter and at the slaughterhouse.

Development of selected faecal microfloras and of phagocytic and killing capacity of neutrophils in young pigs.

Nine healthy piglets, weaned at the age of 35 days and emanating from two litters, were studied from 7 to 63 days of age. The development of their faecal flora was analysed by bacteriological quantification of coliforms, E. coli, enterococci and Clostridium perfringens.

Methods for evaluation of the adhesive and phagocytic capacities of porcine granulocytes.

The adhesive and phagocytic properties of porcine neutrophils were studied. Blood samples were collected from healthy crossbreed pigs, and granulocytes were obtained by density centrifugation. Adhesion to nylon wool was studied and expression of adhesion molecules was determined by flow cytometry.
