Background: Acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) related to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI-AIN) has a not completely understood pathophysiology. Our objectives were to analyze possible biomarkers for the differentiation between acute tubular necrosis (ATN) and AIN, especially in cancer patients, and to study the participation of the immune checkpoint pathway in ICI-AIN.

Methods: We performed an observational study.

Article Synopsis
  • Molecular diagnosis in allergology, particularly using the ImmunoCAP ISAC 112 microarray, improves identification of specific allergens in patients, enhancing the understanding of their allergies.
  • A study conducted in Catalonia assessed this method's impact on diagnosis and treatment (specifically immunotherapy) in young patients with allergic conditions, showing significant shifts in treatment plans.
  • Results indicated that over half of the patients (51%) had changes in their immunotherapy prescriptions based on molecular diagnostic findings, suggesting this approach leads to better-targeted treatments.

The discovery of new diagnostic tools for the early detection of diseases with poor prognosis such as pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAC) is of high importance. The results from a control-case study (20 PAC patients, 19 healthy controls) for the search of new biomarkers of pancreatic cancer based in differences in the serum volatolome are presented in this work. Volatolomics were performed following a non-targeted HS-SPME-GC/MS approach, and a total of 433 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was detected in the human serum samples.

Nocturia has been increasingly recognized as a manifestation of various non-urological conditions including hypertension. In adults, blood pressure (BP) elevation has been identified as a robust correlate of nocturia, but such a relationship has not been studied in pediatric populations where nocturia is often attributed to hormonal, sleep, physiological or psychological disorders. Accordingly, this study aimed to determine the relationship between nocturia and BP elevation in adolescents.

Background: Recognition of specific allergens triggering immune response is key for the appropriate prescription of allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT). This study aimed at evaluating the impact of using the commercially available microarray ImmunoCAP ISAC 112 (Thermo Fisher Scientific) on the etiological diagnosis and SIT prescription compared to the conventional diagnostic methods in patients with allergic rhinitis/rhinoconjunctivitis and/or asthma.

Methods: 300 patients with respiratory allergic disease, sensitized to three or more pollen aeroallergens from different species, as assessed by a skin prick test (SPT) and specific IgE assays (sIgE), were included in this multicentric, prospective observational study.
