A prospective study on canine atopic dermatitis and food-induced allergic dermatitis in Switzerland.

Canine atopic dermatitis sensu stricto and food-induced allergic dermatitis are common canine skin conditions, which are often considered clinically undistinguishable. Several attempts have been made to describe populations of atopic dogs and determine breed predisposition but the results were often biased by the use of hospital populations as control group. The present study aims to describe a population of Swiss atopic and food-allergic dogs and to compare it with a data set representing more than 85% of all Swiss dogs.

[Cutaneous atypical mycobacteriosis due to Mycobacterium massiliense in a cat].

Fast growing mycobacteria are saprophytic bacteria that prevail in water and soil. They are opportunistic pathogens and may cause various infections if gaining entry into the body through a trauma. We herein describe the clinical presentation, pathology and diagnosis of the first case of cutaneous atypical mycobacteriosis due to Mycobacterium massiliense in a cat.

Feline herpes dermatitis treated with interferon omega.

This case report describes the diagnosis, demonstration and treatment of feline herpes virus-induced facial dermatitis in a cat. The cat was successfully treated with interferon omega (IFN-omega).

Penetration of ASM 981 in canine skin: a comparative study.

ASM 981 has been developed for topical treatment of inflammatory skin diseases. It specifically inhibits the production and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. We measured the skin penetration of ASM 981 in canine skin and compared penetration in living and frozen skin.

Poincare surface of section and quantum scattering.

A very simple model for the quantum-mechanical scattering of a particle is studied with a dual goal: The chaotic nature of the corresponding classical problem should be quite obvious, and the method of solution should use an approach that is closely related to the surface of section in classical mechanics. Moreover, the mathematical operations should be elementary so that the errors in a semiclassical approximation or in any computational work have a chance of being controllable. Finally, the mode of presentation is such as to be understandable for a newcomer to the field of chaos.
