Scientific, bibliometric and biographical analysis of 71 Jewish and dissident pharmacologists persecuted in Germany between 1933 and 1945.

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, founded in 1873, is the oldest pharmacological journal. This study sheds light on the influence of persecution and expulsion of Jewish and dissident German pharmacologists during the Nazi era (1933-1945) on their scientific work and publication behaviour. The analysis is based on the German-language book 'Verfolgte deutschsprachige Pharmakologen (persecuted German-speaking pharmacologists) 1933-1945' by Trendelenburg and Löffelholz (2008), which contains short biographies of 71 persecuted pharmacologists.

Clinical and histologic characterization of cutaneous reactions to stings of the imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta) in dogs.

Four adult dogs received experimentally controlled stings in the dorsolateral abdominal skin by imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta). The sites were examined grossly 15 minutes and at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 24, 48, and 72 hours and histologically 15 minutes and 6, 24, 48, and 72 hours after stinging. The initial gross lesions at 15 minutes were swelling and erythema, and the microscopic changes were vascular congestion and superficial dermal edema.

Metabolism and disposition of sulfluramid, a unique polyfluorinated insecticide, in the rat.

The objectives of this study were to characterize the absorption, distribution, and elimination of sulfluramid (N-ethyl perfluorooctane sulfonamide) and its major metabolite, perfluorooctane sulfonamide (DESFA), in order to assess the effect of dosage vehicle on their pharmacokinetics. In Trial 1, male and female Sprague-Dawley rats (170-240 g) were housed in Roth-type metabolism cages. Each rat received 50 mg/kg sulfluramid po, which contained 10 microCi of [14C] sulfluramid.
