Intra-articular blood, iron and hemosiderin, hydroxyl radical cytokines, and neo-angiogenesis cause synovial inflammation, which leads to cartilage and joint damage. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) inhibits most of the mediators that produce and maintain synovitis. We compile here our work showing the clinical effectiveness of intra-articular PRP injections and their potential role in stopping articular cartilage damage due to bleeding and its possible repair.

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is gaining increasing relevance in medicine, with an innovative application being the intraoperative assessment of the outcome of laser ablation treatment used for minimally invasive tumor removal. However, the high dimensionality and complexity of HSI data create a need for end-to-end image processing workflows specifically tailored to handle these data. This study addresses this challenge by proposing a multi-stage workflow for the analysis of hyperspectral data and allows investigating the performance of different components and modalities for ablation detection and segmentation.

This work is a step towards the analysis of the effect of different laser applicator tips used for laser ablation of liver for in vivo experiments. As the thermal outcome of this minimally invasive treatment for tumors depends upon the interaction between the tissue and the light, the emission pattern of the laser applicator has a key role in the shape and size of the final treated region. Hence, we have compared two different laser applicators: a bare tip fiber (emitting light from the tip and forward) and a diffuser tip fiber (emitting light at 360° circumferentially from the side of the fiber).

The marine controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) method has been used in different applications, such as oil and gas reservoir exploration, groundwater investigation, seawater intrusion studies and deep-sea mineral exploration. Recently, the utilization of the marine CSEM method has shifted from petroleum exploration to active monitoring due to increased environmental concerns related to hydrocarbon production. In this study, we utilize the various dynamic reservoir properties available through reservoir simulation of the Wisting field in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea.
