Pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) are emerging contaminants (ECs), whose presence in the environment is of increasing concern due to their widespread use and possible detrimental effects on wildlife and humans. These chemicals may present multiple hazardous properties such as environmental persistence, toxicity, high mobility, and the potential for bioaccumulation. In this study, extended bibliographic research was conducted to characterize the removal efficiency (RE) of PPCPs in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) considering different technologies.

Objectives: Congenital thoracic masses (CTMs) are suspected in presence of solid or cystic thoracic lesions at ultrasound. The common typical fetal CTMs encompass: hyperechogenic lung lesions such as congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM), broncopulmonary sequestration (PS) and congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS); less common solid thoracic masses are mediastinal/pericardial tumors as rhabdomyoma and teratoma. The aim of our study is to gather the available evidence on cases of atypical CTMs of difficult classification, for which the diagnosis remains often uncertain.

Purpose: Breast lymphedema after post-lumpectomy radiation therapy (RT) is poorly defined and difficult to treat. The aim of this study was to define the incidence of breast lymphedema and identify factors associated with the risk of developing breast lymphedema (BL) in women undergoing breast-conserving therapy.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study of patients with early-stage breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) followed by RT between January 1, 2014 and July 31, 2019 at a single institution.

The use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), such as Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) models, is highly recommended by international regulations to speed up hazard and risk assessment of Endocrine Disruptors, which are known to be linked to a wide spectrum of severe diseases on humans and wildlife. A very sensitive target for these chemicals is the thyroid hormone system, which plays a key role in regulating metabolic and cognitive functions. Several chemicals have been demonstrated to compete with the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4) for binding to human thyroid hormone distributor protein transthyretin (hTTR).
