Acute zinc sulfate overdose: clinical presentation and management.

A woman in her 40s with a history of depression, diabetes, zinc deficiency and gastric bypass surgery presented to the emergency department following the intentional ingestion of ninety 50 mg tablets of zinc sulfate. She exhibited gastrointestinal distress without systemic toxicity. Imaging revealed radiopaque tablets in the abdomen, and her management was primarily supportive, focusing on symptom control and hydration.

Transoral Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy: A Useful Complementary Tool in Sleep Surgery.

 Drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is performed widely, and several studies have demonstrated its validity as it provides clinical information not available by routine clinical inspection alone.  This study aims to evaluate the role of transoral drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) in the evaluation of tongue-palate (TP) interaction and its impact on surgical outcomes.  A total of 42 patients with known obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) were classified into two groups according to TP interaction (the absence of space between tongue and palate with the visual impression that the tongue is pushing the soft palate) into +ve and -ve TP interaction.

Voice Handicap Index-Throat: Translation and Cross-Cultural Adaptation to the Arabic Language.

Objectives: This study aims to validate and assess the reliability of the Arabic version of the Voice Handicap Index-Throat (VHI-T), as a self-reported questionnaire for patients with throat difficulties.

Study Design: A prospective, observational, cross-sectional, and descriptive study was performed in the ear, nose, and throat department of Kafr El-Sheikh University hospitals from October 2023 to July 2024.

Methods: The preliminary VHI-T was obtained through forward and backward translation.

Outcomes of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography performed in the AM versus PM: does procedural timing matter?

Background: ERCP is a technically demanding procedure that carries a high cumulative adverse event (AE) rate of >10%. Identifying risk factors for adverse events is paramount. Procedure timing, as a surrogate for endoscopist fatigue, has been shown to influence key quality metrics in colonoscopy, but data on this relationship in ERCP is sparse.
