Percutaneous Image-Guided Cryoablation of Endophytic Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Purpose: Endophytic renal cancer treatment is a challenge. Due to difficulties in endophytic tumor visualization during surgical extirpation, image-guided percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) is an attractive alternative. The minimally invasive nature of PCA makes it favorable for comorbid patients as well as patients in which surgery is contraindicated.

Phenotypic plasticity under the effects of multiple environmental variables.

Organisms exposed to major environmental change face atypical and stressful conditions across multiple environmental variables, yet studies of phenotypically plastic responses historically focus on one environmental variable at a time. Evaluating multivariate plasticity of traits across different, simultaneously varying environmental variables provides new insights into the fate of populations amidst environmental changes. We aimed to investigate plasticity in multivariate environments by (a) examining the individual and joint effects of two environmental variables and (b) calculating genotype-by-environment interactions and genetic correlations of character states to investigate potential evolutionary constraints.

Maternal Testosterone Concentrations in Third Trimester and Offspring Handgrip Strength at 5 Years: Odense Child Cohort.

Background: Maternal testosterone in pregnancy may have conditioning effects on offspring muscle strength.

Purpose: To investigate possible associations between maternal testosterone concentrations in third trimester and offspring handgrip strength (HGS) at 5 years.

Methods: In the prospective, population-based Odense Child Cohort, total testosterone (TT) at gestational week 27-28 and 5-year HGS were measured in 1017 mother-child pairs.

Safety evaluation of whey derived beta-lactoglobulin, Lacprodan® BLG.

The safety of Lacprodan® BLG, a whey-based protein, was evaluated with respect to genotoxicity and sub-chronic toxicity according to regulatory requirements. Lacprodan® BLG did not show any mutagenic potential in a bacterial reverse mutation assay or any clastogenic or aneugenic potential in an micronucleus assay performed in human lymphocytes. In a sub-chronic toxicity study, groups of 10 male and 10 female Wistar rats received the test item orally by gavage for 90 days at dose levels of 100, 300 and 1000 mg/kg bw/day.

Epigenetic variation might play an important role in generating adaptive phenotypes by underpinning within-generation developmental plasticity, persistent parental effects of the environment (e.g., transgenerational plasticity), or heritable epigenetically based polymorphism.
