Introduction: In recent decades, quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis has become an important method for drug design and natural product research. With the availability of bioinformatic and cheminformatic tools, a vast number of descriptors have been generated, making it challenging to select potential independent variables that are accurately related to the dependent response variable.

Objective: The objective of this study is to demonstrate various descriptor selection procedures, such as the Boruta approach, all subsets regression, the ANOVA approach, the AIC method, stepwise regression, and genetic algorithm, that can be used in QSAR studies.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint disorder primarily affecting older individuals, with current treatments focusing on short-term symptom relief for pain and swelling.
  • The paper discusses various factors contributing to the onset and severity of OA, highlighting the potential of inhibiting specific receptors (like DDR2, SDF-1, Asporin, and CXCR4) as a strategy for developing more effective drugs.
  • Additionally, the study reviews recent research on OA, looking into intermediate target molecules and exploring innovative, safe treatments by analyzing how disease progression interacts with cellular signaling pathways.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent progressive neurodegenerative disease, and the most common cause of dementia. One of the histopathological hallmarks of AD is the accumulation of extracellular amyloid-β (Aβ) oligomers as neuritic plaques in brain. The Aβ oligomers are produced from amyloid precursor protein by the action of secretase enzymes, among which β-secretase 1 (BACE1) catalyses the rate-limiting step.

The dynamics of evaporating water droplets on heated graphene-poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) composites is investigated experimentally and theoretically. By inserting graphene nucleates in PDMS, we report the effect of change in thermal resistance on the evaporation process of water droplets on the heated graphene-PDMS composite surface. By dispersing graphene within the PDMS matrix, the evaporation of water droplets is enhanced.
