Objectives: To evaluate the effect of different endodontic irrigation protocols on dentin mechanical properties and fracture resistance of roots with 0.5 mm (weakened roots) and 1.5 mm of thickness.

Assessment of the Ability of Different Cleaning Protocols to Remove Eugenol-based Endodontic Sealer from the Root Dentin.

Aim: The aim of this study is to assess three protocols for removing a eugenol-based filling endodontic sealer from root dentin and the bond strength of fiberglass posts luted with resin cement.

Materials And Methods: Sixty single-rooted bovine teeth were prepared and filled with the Endofill endodontic sealer and gutta-percha cones. After 7 days, 9 mm of the filling was removed and divided into five groups ( = 12) according to the cleaning protocol: G1 (negative control), unfilled; G2 (positive control), saline solution; G3, 95% alcohol; G4, amyl acetate; and G5, Largo bur.

Perception of Dental Students, Dentists and Patients on the Esthetics of Gingival Recession.

Background: This cross-sectional study verified the self perception of different observers on gingival recession.

Methods: Areas of gingival recession were digitally modified using software simulating different clinical conditions in the esthetic area. A total of 180 individuals (60 dentists, 60 patients, and 60 dental students) participated in this study.

Deaths from exposure to paramethoxymethamphetamine in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada: a case series.

Background: Paramethoxymethamphetamine (PMMA) is a ring-substituted amphetamine similar in structure to 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or "ecstasy"), but substantially more toxic. We describe the clinical features of fatal exposures in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective case series on deaths in Alberta and BC between June 2011 and April 2012 for which forensic toxicologic analysis was positive for PMMA and the drug was implicated as the primary toxic agent.

Probability of a false-negative HIV antibody test result during the window period: a tool for pre- and post-test counselling.

Failure to understand the risk of false-negative HIV test results during the window period results in anxiety. Patients typically want accurate test results as soon as possible while clinicians prefer to wait until the probability of a false-negative is virtually nil. This review summarizes the median window periods for third-generation antibody and fourth-generation HIV tests and provides the probability of a false-negative result for various days post-exposure.
