Article Synopsis
  • Background: Antibiotic resistance in urinary infections is a significant issue, especially for infections that spread beyond the bladder. New oral combinations of β-lactamase inhibitors, such as ceftibuten/avibactam, are being developed and show promise against resistant strains.
  • Methods: The study involved experimenting with various Enterobacterales strains to identify mutants that could resist treatment. Researchers evaluated the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and performed whole genome sequencing on selected mutants.
  • Results: The study found a low rate of mutants developing resistance, with notable mutants emerging primarily from KPC and AmpC enzymes. Significantly, E. coli showed mutations related to penicillin-binding proteins, suggesting a specific adaptation to ceft

Objectives: Since June 2022, there has been a rise in the number of ceftriaxone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae cases detected in England (n = 15), of which a third were XDR. We describe the demographic and clinical details of the recent cases and investigate the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of the isolates. For a comprehensive overview, we also reviewed 16 ceftriaxone-resistant cases previously identified in England since December 2015 and performed a global genomic comparison of all publicly available ceftriaxone-resistant N.

Article Synopsis
  • Research on antimicrobial resistance in Group B Streptococcus (GBS) isolates from Saudi Arabia is limited; this study analyzes 204 clinical isolates for genetic resistance to antibiotics.
  • Findings revealed high resistance rates to tetracycline (76.47%) and moderate resistance to erythromycin (36.76%) and clindamycin (25.49%); specific resistance genes were identified for different antibiotic classes.
  • The research highlights a concerning spread of antibiotic resistance across serotypes, emphasizing the need for ongoing surveillance and careful antibiotic prescribing in healthcare settings.

Introduction: Detailed assessment of the population structure of group B (GBS) among adults is still lacking in Saudi Arabia. Here we characterized a representative collection of isolates from colonized and infected adults.

Methods: GBS isolates (n=89) were sequenced by Illumina and screened for virulence and antimicrobial resistance determinants.
