Introduction: As osteoclast, giant cell tumors express calcitonin receptors. The aim of this paper is to assess treatment using salmon calcitonin after curettage.

Material And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 25 patients with giant cell tumor of the appendicular skeleton treated with a single protocol of calcitonin administration following curettage in order to assess the effectiveness of calcitonin in reducing the rate of local recurrence.

The authors present a rare case of univertebral hydatidosis, and report encouraging results 12 years after radical resection of the involved vertebra. They stress the importance of computed tomography and especially magnetic resonance for monitoring early recurrence. A two-staged anterior and posterior approach, although difficult, seems to offer a very good prognosis in case of univertebral localisation.

Imaging is necessary in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal diseases and X rays is the first step of this morphological exploration. Ultrasonography is cost effectiveness, without radiation and have to constitute the second step of the exploration of the smooth tissue (tendon, muscle, sheath, synovium and superficial ligaments). Computed tomography with its new technological progress is very effective in the study of the cortical bone.

We report the results of a prospective Tunisian study using primary chemotherapy followed by conservative surgery in primitive limb osteosarcoma. From January 1988 to January 1998, 56 patients affected by limb osteosarcoma entered in a prospective study of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with the T10 protocol before surgery with a conservative intent. Initial work-up include: clinical exam with tumor measurements, chest and limb X-rays, limb CT-scan or MRI, chest CT-scan, bone scintigraphy and hematological and renal biological exams.
