Exploring the sexual and reproductive health knowledge, practices and needs of adolescents living with perinatally acquired HIV in Côte d'Ivoire: a qualitative study.

Introduction: Adolescents face unique challenges in accessing appropriate information and services regarding sexuality and reproductive health (SRH). This poor access can lead to sexual behaviours that could put them at risk of unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) have specific SRH needs that remain unmet.

Developing and Implementing a Competency-Based Veterinary Medicine Program at the Université de Montréal.

This article outlines the comprehensive reform of the Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at the Université de Montréal, with a focus on the integration of a competency-based approach within the existing curriculum. The primary purpose of this reform was to enhance student competency and address specific deficiencies in competencies as revealed by annual outcomes assessment surveys. The authors developed a competency framework with seven competencies and specific elements, providing a foundation for the educational redesign.

Higher Comorbidities are Correlated With Readmission Following Arthroplasty for Femoral Neck Fracture.

Background: A desire to control cost and improve patient outcomes following arthroplasty led to the introduction of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Program. Hemi and total hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture has been shown to have worse outcomes than those for osteoarthritis. However, little has been studied about the effect of comorbidities on costs associated with arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture.

Radiation immunodynamics in patients with glioblastoma receiving chemoradiation.

Introduction: This is a prospective, rigorous inquiry into the systemic immune effects of standard adjuvant chemoradiotherapy, for WHO grade 4, glioblastoma. The purpose is to identify peripheral immunologic effects never yet reported in key immune populations, including myeloid-derived suppressor cells, which are critical to the immune suppressive environment of glioblastoma. We hypothesize that harmful immune-supportive white blood cells, myeloid derived suppressor cells, expand in response to conventionally fractionated radiotherapy with concurrent temozolomide, essentially promoting systemic immunity similar what is seen in chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

Trading one problem for two: The case against tobacco bans.

First, tobacco-related harms represent a catastrophic health emergency, and second, current tobacco-control approaches are an inadequate response to the scale of that emergency.
