Purpose: One of the regional anesthetic procedures, caudal epidural block, is important for lower extremities surgeries in the pediatric patient population. The perfusion index (PI) value, which reflects vasomotor tone, can be used to indicate block success. The aim was to compare the role of perfusion index, heart rate, and mean arterial pressure in detecting the success of caudal epidural block and to investigate whether perfusion index was an earlier indicator in determining the success of the block in pediatric surgery cases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of spinal anesthesia performed in sitting versus right lateral positions on postspinal headache and intraocular pressure in pregnant women undergoing elective cesarean sections.
  • There was a significant occurrence of postdural puncture headaches in the sitting group compared to the lateral group, while intraocular pressure remained unchanged between the two positions.
  • The results also indicated that the right lateral position required more attempts for spinal anesthesia administration but showed better outcomes regarding headache incidence.

Article Synopsis
  • * Fifty patients aged 18-65 with low anesthetic risks underwent the block, and both preoperative and postoperative PI values were recorded alongside traditional subjective tests like the pinprick and Modified Bromage Scale.
  • * Results showed that significant changes in PI values indicated block efficacy, with the PI being faster and more reliable than conventional sensory/motor tests, demonstrating high sensitivity and specificity for detecting block effectiveness.

Background: Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) procedures are performed under sedation in critically ill patients who cannot be fed orally.

Aim: We compared the efficacy and safety of propofol-fentanyl and propofol-ketamine for deep sedation in patients undergoing PEG. Retrospective Study.
