Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate the relationship between severe lateral patella facet osteoarthritis (LFPOA) and the effectiveness of lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) in patients.
  • A total of 61 patients were analyzed, with severe LFPOA identified in 46% of them; however, there were no significant differences in functional outcomes or survival rates between those with and without severe LFPOA after an average follow-up of 10.9 years.
  • The findings suggest that having severe LFPOA does not negatively affect the survival or functional performance of patients after a fixed-bearing lateral UKA procedure.

Posterolateral corner and arcuate fractures can cause significant disruption to the stability and kinematics of the knee. This study aimed to determine the biomechanical performance of a novel spiked washer (SW) and intramedullary screw technique compared with a tension slide technique (TST) for the repair of arcuate fractures. Sixteen matched fresh-frozen cadaver knees underwent repair.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-deficient knees are no longer considered a contra-indication for unicompartment knee arthroplasty (UKA). The purpose of this study was to determine if patients who had an ACL-deficient knee who underwent lateral UKA had similar mean 10-year outcomes compared to patients who had an ACL-intact knee and lateral UKA.

Methods: Patients who underwent a lateral UKA with ACL deficiency by a single surgeon between 2004 and 2016 were identified.

In this paper, we empirically explore whether gender diversity in European firms, measured at different organisational levels, contributes to enhancing their performance in terms of innovation and productivity. Particularly we propose a structural econometric framework that allows us to simultaneously account for gender diversity at the workforce and ownership level throughout different phases of the innovation process, from the decision to engage in R&D to productivity. Our results reveal that gender diversity is strongly related to firms' performance, besides the traditional factors envisaged by the literature.

The suture combination of a Krackow stitch plus a whipstitch can be used to strengthen a tendon rupture repair. We compared biomechanical outcomes of suture repair techniques for distal biceps tendon ruptures using a single Krackow stitch with and without a whipstitch and a whip-stitch alone. Data were obtained from 36 thawed porcine flexor profundus tendons.
