Introduction: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines have been offered in Quebec schools to 4th-grade (9-10 years old) girls since 2008 and boys since 2016. HPV vaccine coverage does not reach the 90 % target in many regions. This project evaluated the feasibility and the acceptability of interventions to improve HPV vaccine acceptability and coverage in school-based programs.

Article Synopsis
  • High-sugar diets in adult Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) increase their susceptibility to infections by specific Gram-negative bacteria, leading to a higher likelihood of death.
  • The study shows that these bacteria grow more quickly in flies consuming high sugar, particularly linked to hyperglycemia, which may provide additional carbon for bacterial growth.
  • Although flies on both diets activate immune response genes, those on high-sugar diets produce less of the necessary antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), suggesting that sugar overnutrition negatively affects the flies' immune function and alters infection dynamics.

Background: Pneumococcal diseases cause considerable morbidity and mortality in adults. V116 is an investigational 21-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) specifically designed to protect adults from pneumococcal serotypes responsible for the majority of residual pneumococcal diseases. This phase 3 study evaluated safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of V116 in pneumococcal vaccine-experienced adults aged ≥50 years.

Background: Despite the availability of school-based human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programs, disparities in vaccine coverage persist. Barriers to HPV vaccine acceptance and uptake include parental attitudes, knowledge, beliefs, and system-level barriers. A total of 3 interventions were developed to address these barriers: an in-person presentation by school nurses, an email reminder with a web-based information and decision aid tool, and a telephone reminder using motivational interviewing (MI) techniques.
