Relevance of Self-reported Behavioral Changes Before Bariatric Surgery to Predict Success After Surgery.

Background: International guidelines emphasize the need for multidisciplinary preparation to improve the safety and effectiveness of bariatric surgery (BS), but whether the patient is ready for surgery is difficult to assess. The objective of this study was to explore whether inquiries on dietary habits and physical activity before surgery are predictive of postoperative weight loss.

Methods: We prospectively assessed in 78 candidates for BS (age, 43 ± 12 years; M/F, 15/63; weight, 122 ± 17 kg; IMC, 44 ± 5 kg/m) anthropometric parameters, food intake, and physical activity (Baecke questionnaire) at the beginning and the end of a systematized preoperative preparation (7 ± 2 months) including consultations (mean number 7 ± 2) with a nutritionist, dietician, psychologist, and sports coach.

[Brachytherapy in cervix cancers: development of techniques and concepts].

Brachytherapy plays an important role in the treatment of patients with cervical carcinoma. Technical modalities have evolved during the last years and have benefited from imaging modalities development, specially MRI. Imaging modalities contribute to a better knowledge of tumoral extension and critical organs.

Outcome after salvage radiotherapy (brachytherapy +/- external) in patients with a vaginal recurrence from endometrial carcinomas.

Background And Purpose: The vagina is the site most commonly affected by loco-regional failure in endometrial carcinoma (EC). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of vaginal brachytherapy (BT) combined or not with whole pelvic external radiotherapy (RT) for the treatment of patients with vaginal recurrences from endometrial cancer.

Patients And Methods: Between 1986 and 1999 25 women were treated at the Institut Gustave Roussy (IGR) for a vaginal relapse (VR) from EC.

Endoluminal high-dose-rate brachytherapy with a palliative aim in esophageal cancer: preliminary results at the Institut Gustave Roussy.

Ten patients with advanced esophageal carcinoma were treated with endoluminal high-dose-rate brachytherapy at the Institut Gustave Roussy. Eight of them had recurrences after external beam radiotherapy. They were treated with a high-dose rate iridium-192 source.

Feasibility of measuring oxygen tension in uterine cervix carcinoma.

Cellular hypoxia is a cause of radioresistance. The oxygen tension (pO2) in normal tissues and in tumours can be measured by polarography. In this feasibility study we have measured the tissue pO2 of 10 patients suffering from uterine cervix carcinoma, using the Eppendorf histograph.
