Despite the fact that the sulphur hexafluoride (SF) tracer technique was developed over 25 years ago to measure methane production from grazing and non-housed animals, no studies have specifically investigated whether ambient wind speed, temperature, relative humidity and rainfall influence the accuracy of the method. The aim of this research was to investigate how these weather factors influence the measurement of enteric methane production by the SF technique. Six different cohorts of dairy cows (40 per cohort) were kept outdoors and fed a common diet during spring in 3 consecutive years.

Background: Vaginal candidiasis is an important medical condition awaiting more effective treatment. How causes this disease and survives antifungal treatment is not yet fully understood. This study aimed to establish a comprehensive understanding of biofilm-related defensive strategies that uses to establish vaginal candidiasis and to survive antifungal treatment.

Globally, annual production of grape marc (GM), the residue of skins, seeds and stems remaining after making wine, has been estimated to be approximately nine million tonnes. No previous studies have compared effects on milk production and methane emissions when GM from either red or white grapes was fed to dairy cows. This experiment examines the effects of partial replacement of a perennial ryegrass ( L.

Wheat is the most common concentrate fed to grazing dairy cows in Australia, but no studies have examined the effects of wheat proportion in a pasture-based diet on milk production and methane emissions. In this 47-d experiment, 32 Holstein dairy cows were offered 1 of 4 diets during d 1 to 36. Cows in each of the dietary treatment groups were individually offered no wheat (W0) or wheat at 3 kg of dry matter (DM)/d (W3), 6 kg of DM/d (W6), or 9 kg of DM/d (W9).

Despite early bilateral cochlear implantation, children with congenital deafness do not develop accurate spatial hearing; we thus asked whether auditory brain networks are disrupted in these children. EEG responses were evoked unilaterally and bilaterally in 13 children with normal hearing and 16 children receiving bilateral cochlear implants simultaneously. Active cortical areas were estimated by the Time Restricted Artifact and Coherent source Suppression (TRACS) beamformer and connected cortical areas were identified by measuring coherence between source responses.
