Polymorphism of the PAI-1gene (4G/5G) may be linked with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and associated pregnancy disorders in South Indian Women.

Polycystic Ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder affecting 5 - 10% of all women of reproductive age group. The present research was carried out to study the impact of Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor (PAI-1) 4G/5G polymorphism (rs1799889) in PCOS, and the risk of developing PCOS in South Indian Population. The study was carried out in 60 subjects of South Indian population (30 PCOS and 30 Non PCOS) recruited from ARC Research and Fertility Centre, Chennai, India.

Sub-acute toxicity studies of acetaminophen in Sprague Dawley rats.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the sub-acute oral toxicity of acetaminophen in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats at 250 to 1000 mg/kg body weight (b.wt.).

Analysis of sperm nuclear protein gene polymorphisms and DNA integrity in infertile men.

Sperm nuclear proteins, the protamines (PRM) and transition nuclear proteins (TNP) play a crucial role in sperm nuclear condensation. The compact packaging of sperm DNA by protamines maintains sperm genome integrity, which is prerequisite for normal sperm function. However the effect of nucleotide variations in PRM and TNP genes on sperm DNA integrity and male fertility is not clear.

Effect of vitamin A supplementation at different gaseous environments on in vitro development of pre-implantation sheep embryos to the blastocyst stage.

Vitamin A (all-trans retinol) is an important antioxidant whose role in embryo development in vitro and in vivo is well established. Oxidative stress is a major cause of defective embryo development. This study evaluated the effects of all-trans retinol supplementation to maturation and embryo culture media under different gaseous environments on the development of ovine oocytes and embryos in vitro.

Role of reactive oxygen species in the pathogenesis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations in male infertility.

Infertility affects about 15 per cent married couples half of which may be attributed to men with low sperm motility (asthenozoospermia), low sperm count (oligozoospermia) or abnormal sperm morphology (teratozoospermia). As mitochondria are the energy source for initiation, differentiation and function of the germ cells, mutation in mitochondrial genome can impair the formation of mature spermatozoa. Mutations in mitochondrial genome are identified in patients with fertility problems.
