Transabdominal fetal pulse oximetry offers a promising approach to improve fetal monitoring and reduce unnecessary interventions. Utilizing realistic 3D geometries derived from MRI scans of pregnant women, we conducted photon simulations to determine optimal source-detector configurations for detecting fetal heart rate and oxygenation. Our findings demonstrate the theoretical feasibility of measuring fetal signals at depths up to 30 mm using source-detector (SD) distances greater than 100 mm and wavelengths between 730 and 850 nm.

The fluorescent compound relmapirazin has been rationally designed for use in point-of-care measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR), with attributes including negligible protein binding, negligible metabolites in vivo, negligible tubular secretion, and excellent chemical and photo stability. Twenty-four nonclinical assays were performed in accordance with FDA requirements yielding negligible toxicology concerns. Here, a clinical study was performed to validate relmapirazin as a GFR tracer in patients by comparison to iohexol.

Plant genetics plays a key role in determining root hair initiation and development. A complex network of genetic interactions therefore closely monitors and influences root hair phenotype and morphology. The significance of these genes can be studied by employing, for instance, loss-of-function mutants, overexpression plant lines, and fluorescently labeled constructs.

Viral infections are a global disease burden with only a limited number of antiviral agents available. Due to newly emerging viral pathogens and increasing occurrence of drug resistance, there is a continuous need for additional therapeutic options, preferably with extended target range. In the present study, we describe a novel antiviral peptide with broad activity against several double-stranded DNA viruses.

An image analyzing method (SVD-clustering) is presented. Amplitude vectors of SVD factorization (V…V) were introduced into the imaging of the distribution of the corresponding U basis-spectra. Since each V vector contains each point of the map, plotting them along the X, Y, Z dimensions of the map reconstructs the spatial distribution of the corresponding U basis-spectrum.
